Maths

This week, we have been focusing on the properties of 2D shape and, from that, finding the area of rectangles, parallelograms and triangles.  We used our understanding to challenge each other and problem solve using our knowledge.  Next week, we will be looking at perimeter of a selection of shapes before making 3D shapes from nets.

English

We have enjoyed writing our own narrative based on our predictions as we read more of Skellig.  In particular, we focused on engaging our reader with descriptive and figurative language as well as considering our sentence openers.  In SPAG, we learned about contractions and tried to apply this in our writing.

Thematic

We came to the end of our topic, 'My Country, My Home', which was about the Vikings and their impact on the world today.  Before completing our end of topic quiz, we all took part in Mr. Abel's Big Fat Quiz, where we worked in teams (with our Thematic books) to discuss the topic.  It was an incredibly close finish - with high scores - showing how much the children have learned and enjoyed the term's work.  We also had a trip of the local area to search for the human and physical features of Ramsgate.  The following day, we mapped out what we had found.

On Tuesday, we took a trip to our local area.  In groups, we took different routes and searched for the physical and human features around our school.  We found methods to count and then found the best way to record our results.  When we came back together, we plotted the information on large maps.

Love to Learn

For your Love to Learn this week, we would like you to create a 2D shape pattern focusing on the shapes we have studied this week: triangles, parallelograms, oblongs and squares.  Use lots of colour!  Here are some examples:
