Science at Chilton
At Chilton, we encourage children to be inquisitive throughout their time at school and beyond. We develop their enjoyment and interest in science and an appreciation of its contribution to all aspects of everyday life, including how it can broaden our horizons in the future. We aim to build on children's curiosity and sense of awe of the natural world and this involves hands-on fieldwork in our local environment. Through the teaching of our thematic curriculum, the children use a range of investigations and practical activities to give them a greater understanding of the concepts and knowledge of science, whilst being able to approach scientific enquiries by thinking like a scientist. We introduce pupils to the language and vocabulary of science so that they may effectively communicate their scientific ideas when talking like a scientist. The effective and appropriate use of scientific equipment in their studies is a vital part of learning at Chilton. The children develop positive attitudes, which encourages collaborative learning and perseverance. They discover the links between science and other areas of the curriculum and make use of these to deepen their understanding of the amazing world around them. Our children also develop the skill of sharing their explorations and discoveries with others using their oracy skills.
