Important Messages

Welcome back to 2025!  The children have all settled back to school very nicely.  We hope you had an enjoyable break.  Please remember that if children would like to go into the forest school at lunchtimes, they need to bring in Wellington boots in a bag.

As part of our science learning of the heart this term, teachers will be dissecting a lamb's heart for scrutiny.  Children will be welcome to handle the heart for closer observation if they wish.  If you have any questions about this learning, please speak to your child's class teacher.

Maths

This week, we have converted units of measure (km to m to cm to mm for example) by multiplying or dividing by 10, 100 and 1000.  After this, we learned how to convert km into miles.  We continued this by reading conversion graphs and solving problems based on it.  Next week, we will be multiplying and dividing fractions.

English

Our new text this term is Leon and the Place Between.  This is a wonderful picture book that will encourage the children to use their imagination and explore their imagination!  We wrote a setting description of the outside and inside of a circus using our senses and focusing on figurative language.  We also created some lovely artwork using watercolours.

We were treated to a performance from Mr. Oxley, who is a trained magician!  He had the children in hysterics as he worked his magic before sitting down with them to answer their questions.  Thank you Mr. Oxley!

Thematic

Our PSHE this week has focused on the Champion of Courage Lisa Reihana who is an artist who wants to show how her Maori heritage has been lost to history.  We considered how our unique stories that shape our own lives form part of a bigger community of people.  We discussed what is important in our lives and created artwork based on this.  We also tried to emulate Maori art, which was great fun!  Next week, we wll begin our topic 'How to Mind Your Heart'.

Love 2 Learn

After watching Mr. Oxley's magic performance, we would like you to learn and practise a magic trick of your choice.  We would love for you to perform your trick to others in the year group.  Remember what Mr. Oxley said: the more you practise, the better your performance will be!
