One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly News! 13.12.24

Another wonderful week for Year 3! We had the exciting opportunity to visit Royal Harbour Secondary School, where we took part in exciting experiments involving light. We would also like to say thank you for participating in this year’s Christmas Fair. It was a wonderfully festive evening enjoyed by all.

Guided Reading

In Guided Reading, we continued our learning on The Princess and the White Bear King as we looked deeper into the meanings of phrases. We each took part in an AR quiz of this text, testing both our knowledge of the story and our reading skills.

Next week, we will be continuing our text ‘The Princess and the White Bear King’.

English

In English this week, we used our text ‘The Princess and the White Bear King’ to begin writing our detailed 5 part narratives. We have carefully included verbs, adverbs and adjectives to accurately describe our settings and characters as well as move along the plot. We explored how to build suspense and tension in our writing, which helped to create drama for our readers.

Next week, we will continue ‘The Princess and the White Bear King’ and complete our narratives.

Maths

In Maths this week we continued our learning on Measurement, focussing on volume (l/ml). We began by practising our practical measuring skills by using an interactive game to carefully measure different volumes of liquid. Next, we began converting measurements with the knowledge that 1000ml=1l. We applied our column method skills when adding and subtracting measurements and further developed our knowledge of exchanging.

Next week in Maths we will be moving on to Angles.

Fact of the week

Next week, the fact of the week is 3x8=24

Thematic

In the Thematic this week we continued our learning on our topic ‘Feel the Force, See the Light’. We used our knowledge of light to help build an understanding of shadows, discussing how a shadow is made and using scientific language, like opaque. We made our own shadow puppets and experimented with creating shadows, such as how a shadow becomes bigger or smaller. We took this terms Thematic quiz to test ourselves on all the amazing knowledge we have gathered this term on forces.

Home Learning

Building on our learning of measurement of volume (ml/l), can you experiment with measuring water at home? Use a measuring jug to measure out specific volumes of water. If an adult fills the jug up for you, are you able to accurately read the amount? As a challenge, are you able to convert these litres into millilitres?

  • 1l
  • 4l
  • 8
  • 9l
  • 11l

Feel free to record this home learning in any way you wish. You could take pictures, make a video or write your measurements in your home learning book!
