Weekly News! 13/12/24!
We would like to start by saying WOW…. Well done to all the children in reception for their amazing performances in Merry Grinchmas. From the rockers to the tree, the narrators to Cindy Lu and the Grinch himself, all children took to the stage and shone like stars. We are also so grateful for the time you took to come and watch us, thank you.
RWI
This week in RWI some groups have continued to learn set 2 special friends, recap set 1 sounds and practice reading and writing with these. We are focusing on fred talking to read words in most groups now, children have to be able to speedily recall the sounds to hear the words. Thank you for your continued support with reading at home, it is definitely having an impact.
Maths
Over the past week, our focus has transitioned from exploring simple AB patterns to more complex ABC patterns. Children have engaged in identifying the rules that govern these patterns, enabling them to not only recognise the sequence but also predict what comes next. This not only promotes their mathematical understanding but also enhances their critical thinking skills.
As part of our learning activities, the children participated in various hands-on exercises to reinforce these concepts. We conducted group activities where they could manipulate objects to create their own ABC patterns. This practical approach allows them to see the patterns visually and physically, making the learning experience much more engaging and enjoyable.
Next week we will be exploring a range of Christmas themed maths activities to reinforce learning from the term.
Thematic
During the week, children learnt about various emergency vehicles, such as fire engines, ambulances, lifeboats, and police cars, and the professionals who operate them. We discussed how these people help us in an emergency.
In alignment with our exploration of this theme, children spent time designing and then constructing their very own emergency vehicle. This involved using a variety of paper joining techniques including flange joins and folding into concertinas.
At the end of the week, to end our learning around Transport, we had a special visit from a fire engine. This event provided the children with a first-hand experience of the vehicle and the vital work carried out by firefighters.
Next week, we will be learning about Christmas.
