We have eight House Captains democratically elected by children and staff each year. These children play an important part in the life of the school and are important Chilton representatives and leaders. Their responsibilities range from collecting and presenting the weekly house point totals in assemblies, to heading up sports teams on Sports Day and also meeting with important school visitors. They also collect and present views from the children and represent an important element of pupil voice in the school.
House Captains also lead our Junior Leadership Team (JLT) which is made up of elected children from Years 2 to 6.
JLT play an important part in giving all of the children at Chilton a voice. They meet regularly and discuss ideas and points of view raised by their classes. They also conduct pupil surveys on important issues like behaviour and school improvement.
The JLT have recently created their own school improvement plan. This will lead their activities on school development across the year.
The Junior Leaders have been working hard on their leadership skills and recently visited Heart FM to learn about speaking confidently. They created their own advert for Chilton! (Clicking here re-directs you to the page to hear it)
Chilton’s JLT also contribute to the Viking Pupil Council – they hold meetings with other children from Ramsgate Arts Primary School and Upton Junior School three times per year to learn from each other on school developments:
VIKING PUPIL COUNCIL
The ‘Viking Pupil Council’ is made up of children from each of the Viking Academy Trust primary schools. Representatives from each school meet together to form our ‘Viking Pupil Council’ (VPC)
The aim of the VPC is to provide a platform to allow Viking children to work in partnership to strengthen the educational provision in each of their schools.
‘One Childhood One Chance’ is our Viking mantra and the driving force to ensure we are always looking to improve.
The Viking Pupil Council representatives share the best of what’s happening in each school and collaborate to make things even better for all Viking Children.
