Weekly Blog post: 22.10.21
Well done for a wonderful first term in Year 3. We are all very happy with your start to the year. Keep it up!
English
For our final week of English this term we have been reading the story of Medusa and Athena. We have been describing the characters using the skills we have learnt this term such as fronted adverbials, expanded noun phrases and similes. We came up with some brilliant descriptions of the vain Medusa, the wise Athena and the terrifying Medusa after she had been turned into a snake-like creature.
Maths
In maths, we have been learning about fractions. We know the difference between a unit fraction and a non-unit fraction. We are able to represent both types of fractions using shapes. Finally, we can show fractions of both numbers and amounts using the bar model.
Topic
For Topic this week, we have created sunset silhouettes using various art mediums. We were able to choose the medium we wanted to work in to make our work more effective. We have learnt about the Maori people of New Zealand and their traditions, including the Hungi, Haka and Ta Moko. Finally, we have discussed island hopping and debated whether it is a good thing or a bad thing. Our dress up day was fantastic and we would like to thank everyone who dressed up for their amazing effort.
Love To Learn
For your Love To Learn over the half-term, We would like you to create a part of the body to show how you body works. Our topic next term is all about how our bodies function, so to prepare for this we would like you to create an internal organ such as the heart, lungs or stomach. If it can move or show how it works, that would be brilliant. You can use clay, paper, plastic, cardboard, anything you think will show how your body works.
