One Childhood, One Chance

Friday 10th June

A fabulous week in Reception! The children have come back from the May half-term break with a fabulous, positive attitude towards their learning, ready for a busy and fun-filled Term 6!

A big thank you!

A big thank you for the absolutely AMAZING dinosaur projects completed over the holiday – we have been blown away with the effort and time that the children (and families) have put in to these. We have them on display in the classrooms and the children have loved looking at what has been made. Thank you!

Phonics:

The children have remembered their sounds so well and we are so pleased with how well they are doing with their reading and writing. This week, the children wrote about what they wanted to be when they are older. We had such lovely ideas (window cleaner, a parent, a hairdresser, singer, palaeontologist, archaeologist….!)

Maths:

This week, we have been learning about the composition of the numbers 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10. The children have been using different resources to find out how these numbers are made up (for example, 5 and 4 makes 9, 6 and 3 makes 9 and 7 and 2 makes 9). The children have also recapped learning about doubling. They completed different tasks to remind them how to double numbers (e.g. playdough spots on a ladybird, using Numicon tiles, doubling the amount of dinosaur eggs).

PSHE day

To welcome the children back on Tuesday, we had a PSHE day where we focussed on aspirations and what it means to have a ‘good/happy life’. We had some lovely discussions about what they would like to be when they are older and what things they would like to have so that they had a ‘good life’. We had some amazing responses to these questions.

Topic:

This week we have started our new topic: Dinosaurs! The children were told that they were going to have some dinosaurs come to play for the afternoon, but there was a problem…the dinosaurs had been trapped in ice. Click on the attachment at the bottom to see some pictures of this activity. They had to work as a team to release the dinosaurs from the ice! We also discussed what we already know about dinosaurs and what they would like to find out over this term.

Little Stars Sheets

It is always lovely to receive WOW moments which the children have completed/achieved at home. If your child does something for the first time or does something really well at home, please write it on a little stars sheet (ask your child’s teacher if you need more) and pass on to us so we can add it to their learning journeys.

Many thanks for all of your support, from all of the EYFS Team!
