Friday 11th February 2022
We have come to the end of another term. The year really is whizzing by. This term has seen the children continue to blossom in all areas of school life – a big well done to each and every child!
A big thank you!
A big thank you to those parents/carers who read regularly with their child(ren) at home. We really appreciate the time you take with this…thank you!
Love to Learn Task:
At the start of next term our topic will be space! Your challenge over half term is to find out about space. This can be any aspect of space – please follow your child’s interests. You could look in an information book, read stories set in space, look on the internet, ask a grown up and so on. Your child can draw pictures in their Love to Learn book or stick in pictures from the internet. They could make a model, a collage or paint a picture. Please return the Love to Learn challenges by Wednesday 23rd February so that we can use them at the start of our topic. We would love to put some of them up on display too!
World Book day:
World Book Day is on Thursday 3rd March. Children are invited to dress up as any character from a book. They can also bring in a book to share with their class.
Throughout the day, the children will read a variety of stories with their class teacher and hear other adults read their favourite story or poem via a video link. The children’s learning during the day will focus on ‘Poetry for All’ and every class will explore a different poetry text. The children will take part in reading and performing poetry, writing creatively and exploring the text’s illustrations to inspire their writing.
All children have been given a reading bingo card that offers a wide range of challenges that they can complete at home (either one challenge or many). Please sign your child’s bingo card and return to school by Friday 4th March. Winners will be chosen and prizes will be given.
Smarties Challenge!
This week the Chilton Fundraisers will be sending home a tube of smarties for each of the children. Once they have eaten the contents, we ask that they fill the tube up with 20p coins* and return the tube to school by Friday 25th February. They could do some helpful jobs around the house to earn the money.
*Please note, whilst we suggest 20p coins, we are happy with any donation.
Thanks in advance for any contributions you make.
Phonics:
The children have been continuing to practise Set 1 sounds and some children have started Set 2 sounds (see below). They have been practising writing these sounds and reading and writing words with these sounds in.
Miss Gorham’s group have learned: ay (play), ee (feet), igh (night), ow (snow), oo (zoom), oo (look)
Mrs Cotton/Mrs Cheshire’s group have learned: ay (play), ee (feet), igh (night), ow (snow)
Maths:
This week, we have been learning to use vocabulary associated with capacity and volume. We have learned to describe containers as being: full, nearly full, half full, half empty, nearly empty and empty. We have also been comparing and ordering how much is in containers by using words such as: more full, less full, least full and most full. The children have done a super job at this!
Topic:
This week we have been learning about Lunar New Year and how this is celebrated around the world. On Monday, we made dragons, on Tuesday we made up a dance and on Wednesday, we tasted some Chinese food!
This week, we have also learned what it means to be ‘online’ and used the story of Smartie the Penguin to teach us how to stay safe when online.
On Friday, we celebrated World Mental Health Day. We were able to come ‘dressed to express’. During the day, we spoke about the people who we feel we can talk to and who help us. We then created a ‘safety balloon’ to show who these people are.
We hope that you have a fabulous half term holiday!
Many thanks for all of your support, from all of the EYFS Team!
