Important Messages

- SATS (Standard Assessment Tests) Week commences on Monday 12th May.  Year 6 children are welcome to come into school from 08:00 on Monday - Thursday of this week for complimentary breakfasts.  In the past, this has been an opportunity for children to settle tummies, see their friends and prepare for the day.  We would encourage everyone to come along!

- Please remember to sign up to Parent/Teacher Consultations.  If you cannot make the selected times, please speak with your child's class teacher for an alternative slot.

- Friday 21st March is both Comic Relief and Rock your Socks Day for Downs Syndrome Awareness and we will be supporting both at Chilton Primary School. This year marks the 40th anniversary of Comic Relief, which originated in 1985. Therefore, we invite children to wear either 80's dress-up or general party clothes. The 21st March is also Rock your Socks day, which aims to raise awareness for Downs Syndrome.

Maths

In Maths this week, the children have been learning about money and time.  When working with money, children understood where to put the pound sign (£) and knew that there are 100 pennies in one pound.  They then solved problems using the four operations.  With time, we reminded ourselves of the units of time and how many minutes there are in an hour, months in a year and hours in a day.  From this, the children solved time duration problems using number lines to help them.

English

We have been making predictions, clarified and asked questions about the next chapter in our book, ‘Kensuke’s Kingdom’.  From the information in the book, we then wrote a newspaper, focusing on ambitious punctuation, the use of passive voice and using parenthesis to add detail to our writing.  Our newspapers looked fantastic!

Thematic

The children are absolutely loving our topic of ‘Paths to Peace’.  They have been asking so many questions on this interesting subject.  We had fun on dress up day, re-enacting the evacuation process and listening to an air raid siren.  On Monday, we also wrote postcards home in role of an evacuee.  The children have also learned about how rationing worked and they created posters encouraging others to ‘Dig For Victory’.
