Maths

In Maths this week, we have focussed on the inverse to multiplication: division.  We used a written method (bus stop) to show our working out and included our jottings to help make the working out more efficient.  We then worked out how to show remainders; we discussed how we knew some numbers would have a remainder (for example, 2346 is not divisible by 5 as numbers in the 5 times table ends in a 5 or a 0).

English

We have read the end of Floodland: we thoroughly enjoyed the text and wanted to read it again!  We have also completed a quiz on the text.  From the text, we discussed the impact of Climate Change and wrote a non-chronological report on it.  We focussed on causes of, effects of and solutions to Climate Change.  Our learning concentrated on including parenthesis (extra information) and sounding like an expert.

For our Love to Learn, we loved reading the lyrics to our favourite songs for the others to guess.  We heard the song and enjoyed singing 'til our hearts' content!

Thematic

We have enjoyed learning more about Hinduism and read stories from Hindu texts.  We learned about how Brahma can be represented in many avatars and how Hindus believe in Karma.  This led to us discussing whether it is ever right to steal.  In art, we applied our drawing skills to design some wallpaper, based on the Victorian artist William Morris.

Love to Learn

If you have any leaflets at home - or find any on your travels next week - please can you bring them in for Term 2.

After 8 weeks of term 1, we hope you have a restful half term break - enjoy time with family and friends and we will see you Monday 4th November.
