8.11.24 Weekly News!
Welcome back to Term 2! It’s been lovely to see everyone arrive with smiles on their faces and feeling keen to learning. It’s also been wonderful to see nearly all of Year 5 head to the swimming pool this week. Thank you to everyone who attended PTC meetings this week; it was great to share how proud we are of all the children! If you haven't had a meeting, please get in contact with your child's teacher. Please read on to find out what we have been up to and what’s happening next.
English
This week, we invented our own aliens and then collected vocabulary to describe them. We learned about similes, metaphors and personification and used these techniques to write a character description. Next week, we will be inventing a planet for our alien to live on. Using language that shows mood, tone and atmosphere, we will write a setting description of our planet.
Maths
In Maths this week, we have been learning how to read and interpret line graphs. We have also solved problems relating to line graphs. Next week, we will be learning how to identify equivalent fractions; comparing and ordering fractions and then calculating fractions of amounts.
Thematic / PSHE / Values
This week, we learned that our thematic lessons are about space and it is entitled ‘Stargazers’. We learned that the famous astronomer Galileo disproved what people in the past believed about space. We also learned that the shape of the Earth is a sphere. We have also debated people’s theories from the past about the shape of the Earth. Next week is PSHE week. We will celebrating Kindness Week by making kindness buckets, telling trees and poem/rap about respect.
Love to Learn
We are setting a 2 week challenge this time. We would like you to make a spaced themed diorama or model. We would like you to make something 3D. It could be a model of the solar system, a paper mâché planet or something else space themed! Be creative and enjoy yourselves! The due date for this is Wednesday 20th November.
