Weekly News 03.04.25

What a lovely final week of term we have had! Year 4 have had a great last week filled with class rewards, fantastic writing and glorious weather. Let’s have a look at how we have ended the term.
English
In English this week we have finally finished reading ‘The Boy at the back of the Class’ which had so many emotional ups and downs but wrapped everything up brilliantly. In our writing we have been collecting all the knowledge we have gained about refugees and writing information texts about what a refugee is, why people become refugees and what refugees go through after they have fled their country. It has been great to see Year 4 enjoy such a large book with such a serious subject matter. They way they have engaged and connected with the book and topic as a whole has been fantastic.
After the Easter holidays we will be looking at stories from different cultures and will learn how to write a play script.
Maths
In maths this week we have revisited telling the time. We have looked at the differences between a 24-hour clock and a 12-hour clock and then learned to convert between digital and analogue time. Time can always be a tricky one as Year 4 are so much more familiar with seeing digital clocks and so analogue can be tricky to grasp. We encourage you all to keep an eye out for analogue clocks when your out and about (or even make sure there is one in the house) and practice reading it whenever possible.
After the holidays we will be looking at plotting and translating coordinates on a graph.
RE
As we are approaching the Easter Holidays, we have been learning about why Easter is so important to Christians. We learned about the events that lead up to Jesus’ resurrection and what Christians do to celebrate and remember this. We also took the chance to explore how Easter Eggs link to the Christian stories and that, whilst pancake day is a day for eating pancakes for many people, for Christians it marks the beginning of Lent.
Next term our thematic will be looking at the water cycle and learning about different states of matter.
Spelling
Next term, the teachers leading each spelling group will be changing, so please check to make sure you’re practising the words for your group.
Mr Oxley is taking over Mrs Cousins’ spelling group. There words are:
Tea, sea, meat, beat, dear, team, leap, leaf
Red words: fast, last, past
Challenge words: easy, please, beaver
Mrs Cousins is taking over Miss Stephens’ group and Miss Stephens is taking Mr Oxley’s group. Their words are:
Irregular, irrelevant, irresponsible, irrational, irresistible, irreversible, irreplaceable, irritation, pressure, probably, promise
Love to Learn
Since we have learnt how to write brilliant newspaper reports this term, we would like you to write one over the holidays. The report can be about either something exciting that has happened to you over the holidays or something interesting you saw on the news. Make sure to keep a reporter’s tone and try to use reported and direct speech.
