Year 3 have enjoyed another wonderful week of learning! Well done to Ivy and Harry, who both performed so amazingly in the Chilton Speaker competition final on Friday afternoon. Here's what we have been up to:
Maths
In Maths this week, we have been working on our dividing skills. First, we recapped our learning of sharing and grouping and the differences between the two from previous years. We looked at how to divide using these methods both with and without remainders. Next week, we will look at the short division method and statistics.
English
In our English lessons this week, we continued reading through Enid Blyton's enchanting tale, 'The Magic Faraway Tree'. We created some artwork before using adjectives and verbs to complete setting descriptions of fairgrounds similar to what would be found in the Land of Do-As-You-Please. We then completed a showpiece using all of our descriptive writing skills where we invented our own fairground attraction. Next week, we will be continuing to look at setting descriptions, focusing on the Land of Goodies.
To help us with our descriptions, it would be very helpful if children could bring in a small 'goodie' snack (eg. some biscuits) on Monday morning. We will then create our own Land of Goodies!
Thematic
In Thematic this week, we have continued studying the Romans, moving onto the History element of our Thematic unit. We looked at the timeline of the Romans' invasion of Britain and how Julius Caesar twice failed to invade before Claudius was successful around a hundred years later. We created our own timelines showing the history of Roman Britain before researching Roman soldiers and how the armies worked. Finally, we learnt more about Claudius's invasion through his communication with his general, Aulus Plautius. In Art, we continued with our printmaking, focusing on overlaying using different colour prints and the children continued their swimming lessons.
Love to Learn
For your Love to Learn task this week, please could you choose a setting of your choice and create a piece of learning that describes that setting in an exciting, interesting way. This doesn't need to be a piece of writing (although it could!) and can be presented in a creative way (eg. art, video, voice recording).
