Weekly News! 24/10/24
Firstly, we would like to thank you for your support in our first term this academic year. The children have settled in so beautifully and are set to have a wonderful remaining year ahead.
We have had a brilliant final week in Year 3- take a look at what we got up to!
Guided Reading
In Guided Reading, we have continued looking at the book ‘Lila and the Secret of Rain’ by David Conway and Judy Daly. We began our week by clarifying vocabulary found within a text and used context clues to work out the meaning. We then moved our learning on by answering true or false questions based on our knowledge of the book. Finally, we finished our learning on this text by completing an AR quiz.
Next term we will begin our Reading by looking at the text ‘The Green Ship’ by Quentin Blake.
English
Continuing with ‘Lila and the Secret of Rain’, we focused this week on developing our creative writing skills. This week we wrote our own narratives, ensuring we used paragraphs, verbs, adverbs and varied openers. We are so impressed with the children’s phenomenal use of mature vocabulary.
Maths
In Maths this week we have continued our learning on Time. We recapped reading analogue clocks and then moved on to the tricky task of converting analogue to digital. We also ended the week with a fun lesson that challenged us to solve problems by reasoning logically.
Next term in Maths we will begin with Fractions.
Fact of the week
Next week, the fact of the week will again be 2X9=18 and 9X2=18.
RE
In RE this week we have been exploring symbolism in religion. We looked at signs and symbols in daily life and related this to some religious symbols. We focused on Judaism and looked at the symbolism of the cedar plate for Jewish Passover. We finished the week by looking at metaphors found in the bible and tried to decipher what they meant.
Home Learning
Please take the half-term to rest and recuperate! But if you would like to further your children’s learning during this break, please continue to practise reading the time. You can access a brilliant interactive clock by following the link below. You can also continue to practise timetables on TTRS.

Other News
-We will now be completing regular timetable quizzes. Next term we are focussing on our 5 times tables. Please be sure to practise with your child at home. Another great way for them to practise is to play ‘Jamming’ on TTRS and ensure 2s, 5s and 10s have been selected. If your child is beginning to find this easy, try adding in 3s! It would also be helpful for your children to begin playing Garage more regularly.
- Year 3 children should read 4x weekly. Please ensure you are reading with your child as much as possible to support them in their reading progress and make a note of this in their Reading Record.
Have a wonderful half-term!
