Guided Reading

In Guided Reading, we have been continuing learning about  ‘Lila and the Secret of Rain’ by David Conway & Jude Daly.  This beautiful story follows a girl named Lila and her quest to return the rain to her village to save it from drought. This story begins our journey into Kenya and will also be inspiring our English for the next couple of weeks. This week we have been working on our summarising skills. We drew a story map of the story and used this to aid us to answer questions on the book. In Ready for Pleasure this week, we explored magazines and newspapers!

English

In English this week, we have been focusing on emotive language. Emotive language is the term used when certain word choices are made to evoke an emotional response in the reader. This kind of language often aims to persuade the reader or listener to share the writer or speaker's point of view, using language chosen specifically to stimulate an emotional reaction. This week we used emotive language when writing a diary entry as the main character of ‘Lila and the Secret of Rain’, Lila. To celebrate this learning, for our showpiece, we wrote a letter from a different character in the story demonstrating how they were feeling.

Maths

In Maths this week, we have been looking at time! To start the week off we learnt roman numerals 1 – 12 to help us when then looking at clocks that have roman numerals rather than numbers!

After this, we recapped our learning of reading the time to every 5 minutes on a clock. We learnt the difference between minutes past and minutes to the hour.

We will be continuing this learning next week.

Fact of the week

Next week, the fact of the week is 2X9=18 and 9X2=18.

Thematic

This week in Thematic we have finished our Prehistory Rocks learning! We We looked back on all of our History learning this term and gathered information about the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age. We used our prior learning to gather facts about each era and compared them in their developments around tools, materials, housing, building, farming and much more. We then discussed our findings and came to different decisions about what era we would prefer to live in and why.

We ended the week by completing our end of unit quiz. What a great Thematic unit Prehistory Rocks was!

Home Learning

For this weeks Home Learning, we would you like to create your very own Stone Age fact file celebrating Prehistory Rocks this term! You may want to consider tools, technology, farming, clothing or even jewellery! At the bottom of this page is an attached template you may wish to use.
