One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly News! 6.9.24

What a superb first week of Year 3! It has been so lovely to see all the children and to hear about their summer breaks. We have started the term with a bang. Take a read to see what we have been up to!

Guided Reading

This week we have been looking at the book ‘How to Wash a Woolly Mammoth’ by Michelle Robinson and Kate Hindley. We have focused on making predictions and reading the book fluently using expression.

English

Using the book ‘How to Wash a Woolly Mammoth’, we focused this week on writing instructions. We started the week by reminding ourselves of time conjunctions and how we use them in a sentence such as first of all, next, then, later and after that. We used these time conjunctions to put instructions in the correct chronological order. We moved our learning on to our sentences to include imperative verbs such as fill, get, squeeze and rub. We found this added extra information that made the instructions clear and precise for us to follow. We tried this out by following instructions to made jam sandwiches!

Maths

In Maths this week we have been focus on Number and Place Value. We learnt how to represent 3-digit numbers using place value counters and Base 10. We used these resources  to recognise the place value of each digit in a 2 and 3 digit number for example 29 = 20 and 9 or 268 = 200 and 60 and 8.

Next week in Maths we will be partitioning and using this knowledge to add and solve missing number problems.

Fact of the week

Next week, the fact of the week is 2 X 3 = 6, 3 X 2 = 6

PSHE

In PSHE this week, we have been focusing on ‘One Childhood, One Chance.’  We have been focusing on:

        • The Chilton Way rules- Be safe (including how to behave around school when not in class) , Be respectful and Be ready.

  • The Chilton Values- Respect, Kindness, Equality and Courage

  • Zones of Regulation (Green- happy, calm, ready to learn. Blue- sad, anxious, worried. Yellow- excited, silly. Red- angry, frustrated.)

  • Social skills- reminders of using manners (including dinner table manners- using a knife and a fork, why we shouldn’t make a mess, throw food on the floor or leave rubbish on the field), and greeting people around the school.

We used all of this learning to celebrate being a Chilton Hero and created a recipe of a Chilton Hero!

Home Learning

This week we have been focusing our learning on ‘How to Wash a Woolly Mammoth’, for your home learning this week, we would like you to create instructions on how to wash your own teddy or toy. This can be evidenced in any way for example writing, pictures, videos or illustrations.
