Weekly learning w/b 31.03.23
Messages
Thank you to all those who were able to book appointments to see their child’s teacher(s) this week. If you were unable to do so, please speak with your child’s teacher and they will happily book an appointment to speak with you after the Easter holidays.
This week, the children have read more of Kensuke’s Kingdom, creating a timeline of Kensuke’s life to help them understand his character. They learnt that, during World War II, he worked on a ship as a medic. That ship was hit by a bomb and killed everyone on board except Kensuke. The ship drifted to the island, where he lived for many years alone. The children weaved action, dialogue and description to retell the narrative of the ship being struck by a bomb.
After the Easter holidays, we will continue to read the story of Kensuke’s Kingdom and write a message in a bottle from Michael (which is why you brought in lots of empty water bottles this week!).
The children also completed some more practice SATs papers. The teachers have been so proud of their efforts and they certainly have made lots of progress as a result! Keep going Year 6!
The children also applied their scientific knowledge and understanding of circuits and electricity to plan – and begin to make – a steady hand game, which they will continue to make after the Easter holidays. They considered the colours, theme, name of their game as well as where the electrical components needed to be placed before making it. They worked well in a team and assigned roles to each other to be more efficient.
For your Love2Learn task this week, we would like you to research palm oil, as this will become useful to you next term. What is palm oil? Where does it come from? What is it used for? What is the impact of its usage for the planet? You can present this any way you wish. We would also like you to continue to read regularly throughout the holidays.
Have a terrific Easter break! Stay safe and have a lovely time!
