Important messages

-We will be spending the day at Ramsgate Leisure Centre on Thursday 19th January and taking part in a Multi-Sports festival. All children need to come to school in their PE kits, along with a coat and a bag to carry a water bottle and their lunch. Please send your child to school with a packed lunch and their usual break-time snack. A packed lunch will be provided for children who are entitled to free school meals.

- Parent Workshops. Punctuation and Grammar - come and learn with your child!

You are invited into our child's classroom in Term 3 to learn more about how we teach Punctuation and Grammar at Chilton Primary School.  These sessions will help you support your child's learning.

Come and learn with your child in their class!

Sessions are 3.15-3.45pm on the following days in your child's classroom:

Year 4 Tuesday 24th January

Year 5 Thursday 26th January

Year 6 Thursday 2nd February

- Number Day is back on Friday 3rd February. The children are invited to dress in number themed clothing, as a Times Table Rockstar or as a Maths Superhero for a voluntary donation for the NSPCC charity. Please don’t feel the need to buy anything for this day and please feel free to use what you have at home!  The children will undertake a range of creative maths challenges throughout the day. In addition, parents are invited to join their child for a problem-solving activity, in their classroom, at 2:30pm until the end of the day.

This week's learning:

-English: We are loving our text called 'Leon and the Place Between'. By using the story as inspiration, we have written some amazing descriptions of our own circus acts, such as jugglers, contortionist and acrobats. We have also performed circus-themed poems and created Matisse-style artwork.

-Maths: Properties of 2D shapes has been our focus this week. We have learnt how to identify shapes by looking at their properties.  By using the formula length x width, we now know how to find the area of rectangles (oblongs and squares). We have then used that knowledge to find the area of triangles by using a formula.

Next week's learning:

-English: In our text, Leon (the main character) enters the Place Between. We will be gathering ideas using the images and then describing this place within a narrative.

-Maths: We will move our focus on to 3D shapes next week. We will learn the properties of them and also look at the nets they make. After that, we will also be finding out how to find the volume of 3D shapes by counting cubes and then using a formula.

Home Learning Task:

  1. To link to our book, please learn a magic trick. It could involve cards, illusions or even a disappearing rabbit! Everyone will be asked to perform their trick to an audience on Wednesday so please be prepared!

  2. Take some time to learn the spellings from your spelling group in the table below.
