One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly News! 12.7.24

Well done to Year 5 for their wonderful attitude, effort and maturity this week in what was our last full week together in Year 5.

For TRANSITITION, children will need to come to school Monday morning to their CURRENT classroom. They will need to be collected from the current YEAR 6 classrooms at the end of the day Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and dropped off there on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. Children will return to drop off and pick up to their current Year 5 classrooms on Thursday and Friday. Classrooms will be signposted but if you are unsure, please ask a member of staff.

English

This week, we wrote our final piece of the year, focusing on using ambitious vocabulary to describe the Lady of Shalott. We created artwork to showcase her beauty before building exciting vocabulary and adding it to our artwork. We used this as a plan to complete our descriptive pieces. Well done to all of Year 5 for their wonderful effort in writing this year.

Maths

This week, we have been looking at the four operations in a measurement context. We recapped the skills required to add, subtract, multiply and divide before practising these skills by solving a range of measurement problems. Again, a big well done to all the children in Year 5 for their superb progress in Maths over the year.

Afternoons

In our afternoons this week, we completed our Term 6 RE unit based on communities. We discussed which communities we are a part of before designing a coat of arms for our communities. We then researched an important figure of our choice and how their faith had helped them be successful before considering the difficulties that religious people may face in non-religious communities. We also held our big end of Year 5 Kahoot. Well done to 'Calm Down Jamal', who won the quiz on the final double points question.

The children also enjoyed a wonderful Sports Day (well done to all involved) and showed great maturity in undertaking our RSE lessons.

For home learning this week, please could children create a presentation about someone who inspires them and why. As always, the children's learning can be presented in a creative way of their choice.

Dates to Remember:
