Well done to Year 5 for a wonderfully sunny superb week of learning!
English
This week, we finished Alfred Noyes famous romantic poem 'The Highwayman' where both Bess and the Highwayman died but were reunited as ghosts after death. We focused on the actions of the King's men in both the deaths of Bess and the Highwayman. We wrote a balanced, formal letter to the judge presenting the evidence of whether or not they were guilty of any crimes. We focused on formal language, persuasive language, casual and opposing conjunctions and modal verbs. Next week, we will be reading Tennyson's 'The Lady of Shalott'.
Maths
This week, we have been looking at Moneysense. We learnt about the different types of jobs people have and how they are paid, we looked at the pros and cons of shopping in store and shopping on line, we looked at different ways you are able to pay for things and we looked at some top tips for keeping our money safe. Next week, we will be focusing on measurement.
Afternoons
In our afternoons this week, we have continued our Tides of Change thematic learning moving on to the Computing and Design Technology aspect of our unit. On Monday, we learnt about online safety before looking at how search engines work and their limitations and biases. On Wednesday, we looked at how to use TinkerCAD and explored its different features before moving on to designing our own gears on TinkerCAD on Friday. Next week, we will be designing a coastal rescue product using TinkerCAD.
For home learning this week, please could children work on their TinkerCAD (www.tinkercad.com) skills. Unfortunately, they won't be able to use their school accounts at home but signing up is very easy and takes no time at all. What can you create on TinkerCAD? Email us your designs!
