One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly News! 14.6.24

Well done everyone, we have had another amazing week!

English

This week, we have continued our writing on Aidan Giboons' YouTube short 'The Piano' focusing on the use of emotive language. We started the week by watching another short part of the film when the old man is still playing the music however the images are of flashbacks of him in the war. We wrote emotively describing how he would be feeling reliving these moments. Furthermore, we finished the short film by reliving moments of his childhood when he received a gift. We changed the mood and tone of our writing by writing emotively about this happy memory. Next week, we will be starting a new poem called ‘The Highwayman’.

Maths

This week, we have been looking at parallel lines, perpendicular lines and diagonal lines. Also moving on to be able to calculate missing angles in triangles and rectangles. Next week, we  will be looking at how to measure and calculate the perimeter of composite rectilinear shapes.

Afternoons

In our afternoons this week, we have continued our thematic topic from last term called ‘Tides of change’. We have focused on geography and the impact that humans have had on our coastlines. We also began to look at how our coastlines have changed due to natural features such as erosion and deposition. We went on a fantastic beach walk on Thursday morning to see sea walls, rock armour and groynes in action!

Home Learning

For home learning this week, can the children practise these 10 Year 5 and 6 spelling words.
