Well done to Year 5 for a wonderful first week of Term 5!
English
This week, we started reading our Term 5 book 'Wolf Brother'. We made predictions before reading the first two chapters of the book and learning about Torak and Fa's attack by the demon bear. We made artwork of the demon bear using cardboard boxes focusing on its deadly teeth and claws. We then wrote a description of the demon bear before editing and improving our work to add in exciting verbs and adverbs to describe the bear attacking Torak and Fa. Next week, we will be writing a newspaper report.
Maths
In Maths this week, we looked at counting in different powers of 10 before moving on to Roman Numerals. We created a reference card to help us remember the rules of Roman Numerals before completing some problems relating to them. Next weel, we will be revisiting our addition and subtraction skills, focusing on decimals.
Thematic
This week, we completed our Computing unit from Term 4 by looking at password security and inputs, processes and outputs. We also created Diamond 9s of our personality with reasons for our choices during our weekly Be Here, Be You, Belong session. To start our new Thematic Unit 'Tides of Change', we researched the history of Ramsgate, stretching back to the early 20th Century. Next week, we will look further at the growth of Ramsgate, especially as a seaside resort during Victorian times and continuing celebrating ourselves in our Be Here, Be You, Belong lesson.
Home Learning
For home learning this week, please could children go on a Roman Numeral hunt. Where can you find Roman Numerals? What history can you find about them? As always, this learning can be presented in a creative way of the child's choosing.
A reminder that this term's PE for children is be SWIMMING and this takes place on FRIDAY AFTERNOONS. Children can come to school in PE kit and change for swimming at the leisure centre.
