Year 5 have enjoyed another wonderful week of learning! Here's what we've been up to:
English
This week, we focused on the skills of persuasive writing. We discussed our dream jobs and wrote persuasive pieces focusing on the structure of our writing (one paragraph per reason), using persuasive language and a range of openers. We then wrote a persuasive letter to AJ's Mum to convince her to take the job at the cafe. Next week, we will be looking at poetry.
Maths
In Maths this week, we have been looking at multiplication and division. We revisited prime numbers before moving on to square and cube numbers. We then completed an investigation that the dastardly Mr Mason had set for us where we needed to add together prime numbers to find square numbers. Later in the week, we looked at common factors and completed a Friday visualisation investigation. Next week, we will be adding and subtracting fractions
Thematic Curriculum
In our afternoons this week, we have continued our study of the Anglo-Saxons in our Term 3 Thematic unit, 'Marvels of Matter'. We looked at the different pieces of intricate Anglo Saxon metalwork and jewellery before designing and making our own clay Anglo-Saxon brooches using similarly intricate patterns. We then looked at the epic Anglo-Saxon poem Beowulf and mapped out the poem using a storyboard and re-enacted it. Next week, we will be looking at the effect Christianity had on the Anglo-Saxons and moving on to states of matter in Science.
For this week's Love to Learn task, please could children create a piece of work that shows everything that they know about Fractions. This could include previous years' learnings, real life examples, interesting facts etc. Findings can be presented in an interesting way of that child's choice.
