Love to Learn

This week, there are MyMaths tasks to complete.  Pick 10 spellings to practise from the Year 4 common exception words.

This Week

In maths this week the children worked finding related number facts derived from known facts. For example, if 5 X 4 = 20. The children now know that 4 X 5 = 20, 20 ÷ 4 = 5 and 20 ÷ 5 = 4. We also when on to three-digit numbers that the children could derive facts from. Later on in the week, we moved on to dividing friendlier numbers. The children had to partition bigger numbers in to ‘friendlier numbers’ to make the calculation easier for them to complete.

In English, the children began the book called ‘Gregory Cool’. We began by writing a setting description of a paradise beach setting as Gregory visits his Grandparents in Tobago. We then moved on to writing as Gregory about how he felt when visiting his family. Throughout the week, we concentrated on fronted adverbials and adverbial phrases.

In Topic, the children created their own clown circuits. We used wires, batteries, switches, light bulbs and buzzers. This resulted in making the clowns nose light up when we turned the switch on and off.

Next Week:

In maths next week the children will be looking at time. We will begin the week with looking at analogue times, moving to digital and also looking at 12- and 24-hour times.

Next week, in English, we will be continuing to read ‘Gregory Cool’. We will also be making a persuasive brochure on why people should want to visit Tobago. T

In RE next week we will be exploring Sikhism. We will be learning about who Sikhs are and why they believe in, about the naming ceremonies, marriage ceremonies and about Sikh funerals and their beliefs after death.

PE

This week, we have welcomed an Athletics expert, Darren, into our PE lesson.  We demonstrated what we had learned this term and he developed our skills further through some fun activities.  At the end of the session, there was a chance for us to ask him some questions about athletics and how we can continue to stay fit and healthy.
