Year 3 have had a superb week! We have loved completing some more hands on learning this week. Let's take a look at what we have been up to.
English
This week in English, we have begun writing our own non-chronological reports about the rainforest. The children took part in a research lesson gathering information, before planning out their individual paragraphs. They then used this plan to formulate three of their paragraphs, an introduction, wildlife and climate, focussing on using the skills of using a range of sentence types and technical vocabulary to sound like an expert. The children have blown us away with their incredible work and we are so proud.
Next week, we will be continuing to write, edit and publish our rainforest non-chronological reports.
Maths
In Maths this week, we have been focussing on time. We began the week by making watches in order to help us tell the time and then moved on to learning how to convert between hours and minutes and work out durations using a number line.
Next week, we will be looking at statistics including how to use a simple scale, Venn diagrams and Caroll diagrams
Thematic
We have completed our rainforest thematic learning this week. On Monday, the children learnt about deforestation and why it was so detrimental to our world – making a poster and presenting to the class on what we can do to help. On Tuesday, the children made a rainforest leaflet containing all the learnt information from this term to help them revise key knowledge. On Wednesday, we finished our topic by creating some lovely rainforest animal artwork and taking our end of unit quiz.
Next week is our RE week where we will be learning about the religion of Islam
