Weekly News 21.06.2024
Year 3 have had a busy week! Let's see what they have been up to.
English
In English this week, we have been continuing to write our own narrative based on the story of Edward Tulane. We focused on using expanded noun phrases for our introduction where we introduced the setting of the miserable, stormy sea. We then moved on to practice our use of direct speech in our build up. The children worked really hard and we are super proud!
Next week, we will be continuing to write the rest of our narrative, focusing on using verbs and adverbs.
Maths
In Maths this week, we have been investigating mass. We began the week by measuring different masses using scales and practising reading scales in different intervals. We then moved on to compare and convert between grams and kilograms using our charlie crocodiles and place value sliders. We ended the week by solving practical problems using addition and subtraction with mass.
Next week, we will be focused on money sense. This is a PSHE topic all about where money comes from and how to make sensible choices with money
Thematic
Our thematic learning this week saw us learning about the different parts of a plant and their functions. We then moved on to learn about what a plant needs to grow successfully. We took part in planting some cress seeds and have put them in different places to see the effects of the removal of different needs of a plant. We finished our learning by investigating the role of the roots. The children were great at using their scientific vocabulary to show their learning.
Next week, we will be continuing to learn about plants and develop a more in-depth understanding of the functions of the different parts.

Summer Fair
Our Chilton Summer Fair will take place on Friday 5th July from 3.15-5. In order to be able to run the fair, we need a little bit of help from our families.
-On Friday 21st June, we will send home a white bag. Please can you decorate this and add in some small treats e.g. sweets or a small toy. Please can these come back into school on Friday 28th June.
-On Friday 28th June, we will have a whole school non-uniform day. In return, please can we ask that KS2 bring in a bottle for our tombola stall. Reception and KS1, please can you bring in a prize that matches your child's house colour for our rainbow raffle prize. Please can we ask that these donations come into school on Friday 5th July.
-Finally, we will also be running a 'Take home a teddy' stall. If you have any unwanted soft toys, please could you send these into school before Friday 5th July.
We are hugely grateful for any help you can give.
