One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly News 17.5.24

What a fantastic week Year 3 have had. They have worked so hard in all their lessons and produced some amazing learning. Let’s show you what we have been up to.

English

Our English learning this week has seen us completing our non-chronological reports on spiders. The children have worked extremely hard to use technical vocabulary, adverbs and even the four sentence types (command, statement, questions, exclamations). We are now focusing on publishing our non-chronological reports and will be continuing this on Monday. Have a look at some of our examples below.

Next week, we will be finishing our non-chronological reports and writing a spider cinquain poem.

Maths

In Maths this week, we have been learning how to solve word problems involving fractions. The children have worked their brains super hard to learn, understand and apply the skills needed to solve these problems. We used the RUCSAC approach (Read, understand, choose, solve, answer, check) as a step by step process to follow when solving these problems. At the end of the week, we took part in a reasoning and convincing investigation looking at different number rules.

Next week, we will be recapping how to tell the time.

Thematic Curriculum

In our afternoon sessions this week, we have started our computing unit. We began by learning about internet safety including what to do if we see something we don’t like, the importance of adhering to age restrictions and online identities. We then moved on to learn about software and hardware and inputs and outputs. We became robots and had to listen to he inputs to show the correct outputs. We finished this learning by logging on to Scratch Jr and programming a spite using inputs and seeing the outputs on the sprite.

Next week, we will be taking part in a whole RE day on Wednesday which will be focused on the importance of the bible

Home learning

In our PSHE lesson this week, we learnt about the importance of safe relationships. As part of your home learning, we would love for you to bring in or email photos of you with others that you share relationships with. Please let us know if you are happy for these to be used on the display in the hall. The photos will need to be in by Tuesday 21st May 2024.

Choose one of the following to complete:

  1. Make a poster summarising all the things you have learnt this term. You could even include your favourite thing you learnt

  2. Go on a hunt for spiders around your local area. Make a poster about where you found the most spiders and why you think this is.

Olympian Visit

We are incredibly excited to announce that on the 6th of June we have Olympic gymnast Danny Crouch visiting Chilton, to deliver a class assembly with a Q & A session and a short fitness session. Every child has received a sponsorship form this week to complete and fill in to try and raise as much money as possible for Danny to help him with his career. There will be prizes for the most amount raised! If you would like any extra information about Danny, his crowdfunding page is linked below.
