Weekly news! 28.6.24
What a super sunny, great week in Year 2 this week 😊
Guided Reading
In Guided Reading this week, we have been focusing on learning all about Quentin Blake the illustrator of Magic Finger. We learnt a little about his life and work, how he begins his illustrations and completes his illustrations. We used this knowledge to have a go at creating our very own illustrations for the Magic Finger showing emotions and feelings.
In Reading for Pleasure this week, we learnt the lyrics to Matilda songs! We had a blast... as you can see!
English
In English this week, we have been focusing on letter writing. We focused on writing in first person, writing about emotions and using a range of punctuation such as full stops, commas in lists, exclamation marks and question marks. We wrote as a range of characters from Magic Finger but also as ourselves.
Next week we will be writing our own narrative using similar themes of The Magic Finger!
The common exception words that we are focusing on this week are…
Maths
In Maths this week, we have been focusing on money sense! We have been learning about what money is and where it comes from, the different ways we could use money, how to save money for a rainy day and we explored the different choices we have to make with money e.g. shopping, saving and offers!
Next week we will be looking at geometry and focusing on position and direction.
Thematic Curriculum
In Thematic this week, we have been scientists and geographers! We started the week by learning about common garden and wildflowers that we may see in our local community. We explored the school grounds to see what we could find.
Later in the week, we were geographers! We explored the route we went on around the school by using vocabulary such as forward, backwards, left and right. We then learnt about a compass. We learnt how a compass works and how it can aid us when thinking about directions.
