Weekly News! 7.6.24
What a wonderful week in Year 2!
Thursday was a particular highlight for us as we got to meet Danny Crouch! Danny is a Team GB Gymnast and two time champion at the Youth Olympics and European Championships runner-up. He led a superb assembly and then led us through some fitness activities! We had such great fun, we learnt that Danny has had many ups and downs but due to his perseverance and resilience he is a very successful gymnast.
Guided Reading
In Guided Reading, we have been exploring our brand-new book ‘Grace and Family’. This week we have been working on our prediction, inference and clarifying skills.
Here is a link to the book on YouTube if you would like to listen to it.

English
In English this week, we built up our writing skills so we would be able to write a diary entry as Grace. We have focused on emotive language, setting descriptions, past tense and rhetorical questions!
Next week, our showpiece will be writing a fact sheet about Gambia!
SPaG
In SPaG this week, when focusing on Punctuation and Grammar, we focused on conjunctions to extend our sentences. We focused on and, but, so and because.
When focusing on spelling, we focused on common exception words! Each week we will be recapping the spelling of a selection of common exception words. This week we will be looking at… Please feel free to practise these at home too.
Maths
In Maths this week, we have been focusing on fractions! We have reminded ourselves on how to find fractions of numbers and then moved our Math’s learning on to placing fractions onto a number line and finding missing fractions.
Nex week, we will be learning about statistics!
Fact of the week: 5 X 10 = 50
PSHE
In PSHE this week, our learning has been focused on the phrase ‘your words can hurt’. We started the week by discussing scenarios and how people’s words may make people feel a variety of emotions. We moved this learning on by considering what could we say instead to ensure people stay in the green zone of regulation. We ended the week by celebrating everything we have learnt by considering meaningful compliments. We created shape poetry to complement our learning partners.
