Weekly News! 21.6.24
We've had another great week! Read on to find out all about it...
Read, Write Inc.
We have been continuing practising spotting our sounds and then using fred talk to read words. We have also been continuing to use our fred fingers to help us write the words in our books, but not for the red words, because we all know you can't fred a red! We have been working hard on our writing and making sure all our letters are formed correctly. We have been really working on our big writes, keeping diaries at home, writing comic strips, writing postcards/cards, and making up stories at home can really support this. In your child’s reading folders, you will find some set 1,2 and 3 sounds and also some red words. Any practice with these would be wonderful!
Reading
*UPDATE* Read, Write, Ink home readers will now be changed on Mondays not Fridays. Please continue to remind the children to put their reading folder in the coloured trays so that we can give them new books.
Reading at 3 - Every Friday at 3 our doors will be open for you to come in and read with your child. Please note, this will be for the full 15 minutes and children should not leave any earlier. Their books will be set up and ready for you to come in and enjoy listening to their wonderful reading.
Reading folders - All children will bring home two books, one being a RWI home book. Children are expected to try and read this three times during the week to ensure they are building on their reading fluency. The RWI home books will be changed, by an adult, every Monday.
The other book (with the coloured sticker) should be changed independently by the child themselves - first thing in the morning is a great time to do this!
Please ensure that the reading folders are being placed in the reading-coloured trays, so we can read with your children and ensure books get changed. Thank you for your support with this!
Please listen to your child read as much as possible at home and record this in their reading records. Every week, one child from each class will receive a reading certificate in our Chilton Heroes assembly.
Let's practice spotting special friends, fred talk, read the word. Your words of the week are....remember you can break up multisyllabic words into two chunks with your finger to help!
Maths
In our lessons, we have been exploring how repeated addition is a useful strategy for solving multiplication problems. By counting how many are in each group and then adding them together, the children have gained a deeper understanding of the concept of multiplication.
We have also delved into crafting multiplication stories to enhance the understanding of the process. The children have been focusing on determining the number of groups, the quantity in each group, and the total amount overall. This approach has helped to make multiplication more tangible and engaging for our young learners.
Furthermore, we have introduced the use of bar models as a visual aid for solving word problems related to multiplication. This method not only supports the children in comprehending the problems but also encourages them to approach problem-solving creatively.
I encourage you to continue reinforcing these concepts at home through practical activities and discussions. By incorporating multiplication into everyday tasks and routines, such as counting items during shopping or dividing snacks into equal groups, your child's understanding and fluency in multiplication will continue to grow.
Next week, we will focusing on money sense and how money is used within every day life.
Thematic
This week, we delved into the fascinating world of deciduous and evergreen trees. We even went on a little adventure around the school grounds to spot these trees and see if we could tell the difference between them. The children were so enthusiastic and engaged during this outdoor learning experience.
We also explored the types of leaves these trees have, which helped us understand them even better. It's amazing how much there is to learn from nature, right on our doorstep!
Another topic we dived into was food chains. We discussed why they are crucial for supporting life, and the children worked hard on creating their very own paper chain food chains. It was fantastic to see them grasping such an important concept.
To wrap up the week, we got our creative juices flowing by writing stories about animals finding their own food sources. The imagination and storytelling skills the children displayed were truly impressive.
Home learning
This week we would love for you to practise your 2, 5 and 10 times tables. This can be displayed any way you wish.
Other news
Our Chilton Summer Fair will take place on Friday 5th July from 3.15-5. In order to be able to run the fair, we need a little bit of help from our families.
-On Friday 21st June, we will send home a white bag. Please can you decorate this and add in some small treats e.g. sweets or a small toy. Please can these come back into school on Friday 28th June.
-On Friday 28th June, we will have a whole school non-uniform day. In return, please can we ask that KS2 bring in a bottle for our tombola stall. Reception and KS1, please can you bring in a prize that matches your child's house colour for our rainbow raffle prize. Please can we ask that these donations come into school on Friday 5th July.
-Finally, we will also be running a 'Take home a teddy' stall. If you have any unwanted soft toys, please could you send these into school before Friday 5th July.
PE is on a Wednesday.
Sports project will be on a Tuesday – Only trainers needed, with full school uniform.
Doors will continue to open in the morning at 8:30am. Registration will be at the slightly earlier time of 8:45am (doors close at this time).
Mrs Howard will be teaching Team Peacock every Tuesday and Team Azure on Monday afternoons.
