One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly News! w/b 6.3.23

What a fabulous week we have had! We all wish Miss Bryson a speedy recovery!

Read, Write Inc

This week we have continued learning our sounds. We continued our new books, learnt new vocabulary and worked hard with our spellings. We have been really focussing on our big writes this week, making sure we use capital letters, full stops and finger spaces! Please continue read at home. Practising spotting special friends before reading the word helps to make sure you are reading accurately. For an extra challenge, take note of the punctuation used in your books!

Some of you may have seen comments in your child’s reading record about re-reading their reading books. We are encouraging this to help support their fluency and confidence.

In each reading folder, there is a sound card and list of red words. Any practise with these at home would be extremely helpful and support your child’s reading and writing at home.

Every morning can all children place their reading folders inside their house trays in the conservatory please :) This helps us keep track of their reading and how many books they have read. Thank you.

Maths

This week in maths we have been looking at multiplication! We started the week my looking at equal groups and working out the multiplication sentence to match. We needed to count the equal groups, look at how many items were in one equal group and then counted all the items up altogether to find our answer! It sounds confusing, but we really got the hang of this and impressed our teachers! Take a look at what we got up to.

Thematic Curriculum

This week we have been focussing on Science! We have been classifying animals. We started the week by looking at the different types of animals, including fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals. We enjoyed a full afternoon of activities based around our learning. We sorted animals into their groups, we matched real life animal xrays with the correct animal, we took our time to compare three types of birds and we used books and handouts to find out more independently! We continued our learning by looking at animal diets! We learnt which animals were Carnivores, Herbivores or Omnivores. We discussed their diets and learnt the difference between all three types. We sorted a range of animals into their diet types using sorting hoops and discussed what we are! We ended the week by working on some Geography. We learnt what a compass rose was and planned our own voyage across the continents, just like the explorers we learnt about did. We had to think about which continents we would pass, which directions we would travel and which mode of transport we would use and why.

Next week we will be looking at...

Division in maths and continuing our learning in Geography!

Love to Learn:

This week we would love for you to practise your 5 times tables. You can use equal groups to help you for example…
