One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly news! 12.07.24

As we near the end of our final term and the last week in Reception, we are still seeing the children’s enthusiasm and determination to challenge themselves, particularly during our sports day. We are so proud of the children showing fantastic team work, well done for your first ever sports day, Reception!

Read Write Inc

It’s been a wonderful term of RWI and the children’s abilities to read and write are coming on leaps and bounds. It is easy to forget how much the children have learnt in such a small time, but we can proudly say that all the children have worked incredibly hard, and it shows! We have been reading with the children and have noticed how well they are remembering red words, reading with fluency, recognising capital letters and sentence structures. This is preparing your children for their ventures into year one, and whist we completely understand the demands of life and how tired the children can get- reading makes all the difference, so thank you for your continues support!

As a little encouragement for the children, we have started rewards in class for reading everyday at home!

We change the books on a Tuesday and Friday, so be sure to pop them in the baskets in the morning!

Maths

This week, the children have been planning their very own dinosaur cage. They had to think carefully about the shapes and materials they needed to use in order for their dinosaurs to fit in it and for it to be strong enough to hold them. The children then made their cages using their plans and later evaluated it to see what went well and how it could be made even better. The children’s effort were amazing and it was wonderful to see their plans come to life.

Thematic-Dinosaurs.

We have been reading ‘Harry and the bucketful of dinosaurs’ this week in our thematic lessons.  They came up with wonderful examples of what the dinosaurs would have seen on their adventure and wrote about these using their sound knowledge. The children made predictions on what would happen next alongside answering questions about what has happened in the story, showing great comprehension.
