Chilton Primary School

One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly News! 05.07.24

This week, the children have shown us their readiness for year 1. All of a sudden, Team Cornflower and Sapphire no longer look or act like the littlest members of Chilton School, and they seem ever ready for their ventures beyond reception, not that the teachers are quite ready to say goodbye yet! The end of this term sees a busy schedule. The children have lots to look forward to, so we have included some important dates and events for you below:

-Wednesday 10th July- Reception sport's day from 1.45-3. Please make your way to the top field.

-Chilton transition days for Years R – 5 – Monday 15th July to Wednesday 17th July - The children will spend three days with their new teachers for the new academic year.

-Inflatable Fun Day – Thursday 18th July - We will have several inflatables on the top field for a reward for all the children at the end of the school year.

-Final Day of Term – Friday 19th July - We will be waving goodbye to our Year 6 children from 1:05 and the rest of the children will finish school at 2:00

-Warmer weather- as the weather continues to stay warm, please ensure you send your child in with a water bottle and sun hat. We also advise that you apply sun cream in the mornings.

Phonics

Most children have been focusing on learning set 2 sounds, reading and writing these in words. Here is a link that goes through the set 2 sounds. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M1Wc5y5eIgA

The children love writing their sounds using a range of tools to disco music, practising how they look and sound repeatedly to remember them.

We are continuing to see the children applying their skills learnt through the Read Write Inc programme to their reading. The children have been saying the sounds in a word in their head before reading it aloud, also known as ‘Fred in your head’, may we ask you to encourage this when reading at home too.

We greatly appreciate the efforts made at home when reading and writing with your children. It really does show in their confidence during school.

Maths

The children have been sequencing events by making their very own jam sandwiches. They used vocabulary such as first, next, then, after that and finally to describe the steps they needed to take. The children then wrote their own steps to help others who need to make a jam sandwich.

Next week, the children will be focussing on repeated patterns in songs, rhymes and their environment, such as wallpapers.

Thematic

A fabulous story to start the week by reading ‘Dinosaur Farm’ which the children thought was very funny! They had to become a farmer and look farmer and look after their own dinosaurs. They learnt about different habitats that the dinosaurs could live in and made their own using a range of items in their environment.

Next week, the children will be reading ‘Harry and his bucket of Dinosaurs’ going on their own adventure…

We hope you have a restful weekend. See you Monday!
