One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly news! 21.06.2024

Amazing work from Reception, again!

The children have once again blown us away with their confidence and ability to come together as a team, I think we can all say that their assembly on the ‘Very hungry caterpillar’ was testament to this. Well done Reception!

Read Write Inc

It’s been a wonderful term of RWI and the children’s abilities to read and write are coming on leaps and bounds. It is easy to forget how much the children have learnt in such a small time, but we can proudly say that all the children have worked incredibly hard, and it shows! We have been reading with the children and have noticed how well they are remembering red words, reading with fluency, recognising capital letters and sentence structures. This is preparing your children for their ventures into year one, and whist we completely understand the demands of life and how tired the children can get- reading makes all the difference, so thank you for your continues support!

As a little encouragement for the children, we have started rewards in class for reading everyday at home!

We change the books on a Tuesday and Friday, so be sure to pop them in the baskets in the morning!

Maths

In maths, the children have been learning about subtraction. They have been working together to create calculations and find the answers through using manipulatives in the class. We started the week by using the numicon to help us find what was left when we subtracted an amount. The children learnt about the symbols they need ion order to write the calculation and have been making sure they put them in the correct order. We have since help the dinosaurs with some subtraction calculations and are beginning to make connections between our learning in other areas of maths to help us, just like our number bonds and doubles.

Next week, we will be exploring our number bond facts to 10.

Thematic-Dinosaurs.

We just wanted to say a huge thank you to the families who have worked hard on their dinosaur creations for their home learning. The children re thoroughly enjoying sharing what they have learnt already. This week, we have been reading ‘Say hello to the dinosaurs. We have been exploring types of dinosaurs and their characteristics. They have been using this information to make their own songs and have performed them in front of the class.

Next week, the children will be exploring the story ‘Dinosaur farm’ and will be playing the role of a farmer who needs to keep his dinosaurs safe and happy.

Key dates

Our Chilton Summer Fair will take place on Friday 5th July from 3.15-5. In order to be able to run the fair, we need a little bit of help from our families.

-On Friday 21st June, we will send home a white bag. Please can you decorate this and add in some small treats e.g. sweets or a small toy. Please can these come back into school on Friday 28th June.

-On Friday 28th June, we will have a whole school non-uniform day. In return, please can we ask that KS2 bring in a bottle for our tombola stall. Reception and KS1, please can you bring in a prize that matches your child's house colour for our rainbow raffle prize. Please can we ask that these donations come into school on Friday 5th July.

-Finally, we will also be running a 'Take home a teddy' stall. If you have any unwanted soft toys, please could you send these into school before Friday 5th July.
