And just like that, we have reached the end of a very fun and busy term 5. The children have excelled themselves by delving into learning new concepts and been outstanding in their resilience and determination to learn more. Thank you to every single one of you for your support in your child/ren's home learning and reading. 

 

Read Write Inc

It’s been a wonderful term of RWI and the children’s abilities to read and write are coming on leaps and bounds. It is easy to forget how much the children have learnt in such a small time, but we can proudly say that all the children have worked incredibly hard, and it shows! We have been reading with the children and have noticed how well they are remembering red words, reading with fluency, recognising capital letters and sentence structures. This is preparing your children for their ventures into year one, and whist we completely understand the demands of life and how tired the children can get- reading makes all the difference, so thank you for your continues support!

As a little encouragement for the children, we have started rewards in class for reading everyday at home!

, we look forward to seeing your efforts- and don’t forget to write in your child’s book when they have read so we know you need your books changing. We are continuing with changing the books on Tuesdays and Fridays

Maths

It has been an incredibly fun week, learning about how patterns can be created using a variety of different shapes. The children have used the story ‘The very hungry caterpillar’ as a hook for making their very own patterns. The children had square and circle templates and used these to create AB, ABB and ABC patterns using the food the Very Hungry caterpillar ate in the story.

When we return from our half term, the children will be learning to compare quantities up to 10 using language ͚’more than’, ‘greater than’, ‘less than’, ‘fewer’, ‘the same as’, ‘equal to’.

 

Thematic-Growth

This week has seen the last our learning about the topic ‘Growth’. The children started the week by reading the story ‘Wangari’s trees of peace’ which is a wonderful story based on true events in Kenya. The children have sequenced events in the story, learnt of the importance and impact trees have on our planet and discovered ways in which they can reduce the wastage that comes from chopping down trees.

Next term, we will be looking at healthy relationships in PSHE.

• We are incredibly excited to announce that on the 6^{th of} June we have Olympic gymnast Danny Crouch visiting Chilton, to deliver a class assembly with a Q & A session and a short fitness session. Every child has received a sponsorship form this week to complete and fill in to try and raise as much money as possible for Danny to help him with his career. There will be prizes for the most amount raised! If you would like any extra information about Danny, his crowdfunding page is linked below.

• PE kits need to be worn in to school each Friday please.

• Please ensure that children have a named water bottle which is already filled with water at the start of each day.
