Newly appointed house captains at Chilton Primary in Ramsgate are getting ready to tackle one of their most important roles already.
The eight-strong group from Year 6 will help lead tours around the school community for a range of visitors in the coming year.
Deputy Head of School Hannah Cheshire has every faith in the house captains. She said: “They have been chosen because they are terrific ambassadors for our school.
“They are responsible, hard-working, pleasant pupils who will do their best to be helpful and answer any questions they can.”
Being a school house captain is a real privilege and a role that many of Year 6 children are keen to embrace.
To become a house captain, the candidates must prepare and perform a speech detailing why they would be good for the role. They present this to their year group, classmates and the senior leadership team.
The adults in school then decide who best fits the role. They look for pupils who embody the school values of respect, equality, courage and kindness.
Mrs Cheshire added: “Our young leaders play an important role in liaising with pupils and staff in their ‘houses’ as well as performing regular duties such as announcing the house point winners in celebration assembly, greeting visitors, and leading school tours.”
Two captains are allocated to each of the four school ‘houses’. These are red Roman, yellow Saxon, green Norman, and blue Viking.
Head of School Alex McCauley said: “These are pivotal positions for pupils who will be role models and mentors. They will embrace the challenge and contribute greatly to the ongoing smooth-running of our school. We are looking forward to working with them as our senior pupil team.”
Chilton Primary is part of the Viking Academy Trust with Upton Junior School, Broadstairs, and Ramsgate Arts Primary.
