The high standard of musicianship was under the spotlight in a special showcase performance at Chilton Primary School, Ramsgate.

Talented young performers and singers from all age groups staged a lively concert for families and staff to mark the culmination of another year of music-making at the school.

Chilton’s music leader Graham Redwood led the celebration, while the players performed skilfully on a range of instruments including tuned percussion and guitars.

The varied programme of music demonstrated the variety of styles that pupils can adapt to with ease.

Mr Coney’s acoustic guitar groups performed a range of songs from the Batman theme tune to Riptide by Vance Joy, while young musician demonstrated their prowess on electric guitar with a solo spot.

Special guest was former pupil Luke Gore, who is going to study music at the Royal Holloway University. He wowed the audience with his xylophone playing and then joined the ensemble for the remainder of the performances.

Year 6 leavers performed a variety of songs on the xylophone and djembe drums including the Mission Impossible theme tune.

The finale saw the choir in fine voice with a selection of songs before all the performers gathered together for a rousing rendition of Waka Waka by Shakira.

Deputy Head of School Hannah Cheshire said: “Once again our summer concert was well supported and the terrific reception the performers received was very well-deserved.

“It was a celebration of all the musical achievements attained by our children throughout the year, whether in class or in our after school clubs.

“We believe that it is vital to have a balanced curriculum at Chilton and we put a lot of emphasis on our arts provision of which we are very proud.”
