Chilton Primary School

One Childhood, One Chance

Chilton children’s day of sporting success

This summer’s Olympic Games was the theme for the annual sports day at Chilton Primary in Ramsgate.

The competition – which also highlighted the school’s sporting values – saw each class chose a country to represent.

Children then paraded to a song from their chosen nation at the opening ceremony of the Chilton Games, while Year 6 leavers performed a specially-themed dance for the occasion.

A varied range of events challenged competitors, including cornhole beanbag throwing game, Jenga stacking, water relay, space hopper racing and tug of war. Children earned points for their house teams, as well as being awarded stickers corresponding to the sporting values of passion, respect, self-belief, honesty, teamwork and determination.

At the end of the competition one pupil received an overall award for each of the values, and there was a race to discover the fastest girl and boy runners in each age group.

An energetic and enthusiastic tournament ended with a Year 6 obstacle race which saw the children who are leaving Chilton this summer face one last challenge – to complete the circuit whilst teachers aimed to get them as wet as possible.

Head of School Alex McAuley said: “It was a lovely event with so much friendly competition worthy of gold medals all round.

“It highlighted and celebrated the strong sense of community we embrace at Chilton. We try to encourage the competitive spirit within our children and balance this with the core values it takes to show true sportsmanship. There was a lot of fun and laughter for all involved.”
