Chilton pupils learn to create perfect pasta
Children with chef Lorenzo Di Francesco
Children at Chilton Primary in Ramsgate have learned tasty tips on how to create the perfect pasta.
The Year 6 group welcomed Italian chef Lorenzo Di Francesco into school to find out more about making the fresh ingredients that are the staple diet for a range of culinary creations.
Eager to learn how to make the nutritious and varied meal, pupils were given step-by-step hints.
They measured the ingredients, made pasta dough, found out how to use traditional pasta-making machines, and then learned how to make a simple pasta sauce to complete their meal.
The apprentice pasta-makers took their pasta home and were challenged to cook and serve the dish as their dinner.
Teacher Helen Rowland-Hill who is Head of Key Stage 2 at Chilton said: “The children loved every minute of working with such an energetic and enthusiastic teacher as Lorenzo.
“The food certainly went down well – one parent told us ‘this was a great idea; I’m not sure dried penne will cut it in the future’.
“It was wonderful seeing the children learning a new life skill that they can teach their families at home. They also created their own recipe cards so that they would be able to teach other children or their adults at home.”
