Chilton Carries the Torch for Thanet Games
Chilton Primary in Ramsgate is the first school in Thanet to welcome the promotional team behind this summer’s Thanet Games.
Children welcomed the team and their mascot and were the first to receive the games’ torch and parade with it on the school playing field.
The Thanet Games run by the area’s Community Safety Partnership links in with the spirit of the forthcoming Paris Olympics and aims to involve as many pupils as possible in a range of sports in the coming weeks.
Deputy Head of School Hannah Cheshire said: “This was a real first for Chilton.
“The Thanet Games are going to be very popular in the coming weeks and we are proud to have been selected as the first school to receive the torch and find out more about this great sporting opportunity.
“The visit started with an assembly all about the Olympic Games, the history of the torch and how the Thanet Games will work.
“The whole school then made its way to the field where children had the opportunity to carry the Thanet Games torch.
“The children were so excited to meet the mascot and it gave them a real sense of excitement for the upcoming Thanet and Olympic games.
“Our pupils will be attending three further Thanet Games events for schools in the coming weeks.”
