Friday 1st October

Year 6 have had a fantastic week. We have been multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000 in Maths. We went on to look at multiples and factors of numbers. In Guided Reading and English, we have continued to focus on our class novel 'Floodland'. We have been writing setting descriptions, weaving action into them focussing on the use of adverbs and adjectives and varying our sentences using fronted adverbials. The children enjoyed using papier-mâché to make masks from the Picti tribe.
Our Learning next week:
In Maths, we will be learning about prime, square and cube numbers; moving onto formal multiplication towards the end of the week.
In Guided Reading and English, we will be continuing to use Floodland to write dialogue that shows characterisation of the main characters. By the end of the week, we will be using the skills developed over the past two weeks to write action, dialogue and description woven together.
Next week in Topic, we will move on from learning about the Romans to discovering facts about the Anglo-Saxons. Finding out what they brought to England. We will take part in a number of activities including weaving.
Love To Learn
In preparation for next week's learning we would like the children to have a go at weaving. We would like them to use different materials to create a woven piece. We are looking forward to seeing a range of interesting materials and design — so be different!
We would also like the children to continue to read every evening, bringing their reading book and reading record in daily. As well as this, the children should continue to use TTRS regularly.
