Y5 Weekly News

Welcome to the Year 5 blog. Each week we will update you with what we have been learning.

This week we celebrated the GOOD TO BE ME topic.  Thank you to everyone who attended the parade.

Reminders:

Return to school Tuesday 4th June.

PE is every Wednesday afternoon. Please ensure children have the correct PE kit in school.

Year 5 children are expected to read for at least 10 minutes every day and hand in their reading record daily.

Friday 21st June – Science Museum Trip

Learning this week:

In our English lessons, we have focused our learning on editing and improving our Lady of Shalott narrative and writing them up into our Published Pieces book. We have also written pieces linked to our current ‘Good To Be Me’ values topic. We gathered vocabulary and used thesauruses to improve our word choices.

Our reading lessons have involved answering comprehension questions. With learning partners, we analysed how to answer 3 mark questions. We also linked our reading skills to RE and answered a series of comprehension questions based on a text about Judaism.

In maths, we have continued with calculating equivalent fractions, decimals and percentages. We used our reasoning and problem-solving skills to answer a range of questions then applied them to an end of unit quiz, which won the winning team some Haribo!

Home Learning:

Enjoy your week off!

There is no right or wrong way to complete a Love to Learn task! Please be as imaginative or as creative as you would like! Love to Learn tasks should be returned on the Wednesday following them being set. Whilst books may not be formally marked, in class we will spend time looking at and enjoying what everyone has learned at home and rewards and house points will be given!
