Year 5 have had a wonderful week to end Term 5! Thank you to all the effort put into Victorian Day costumes and for your help and attendance at our Be Here, Be You, Belong parade.
English
In English this week, we have finished our Emily and Lizzie narratives focusing on bringing our stories to a satisfying end. We also published our stories and finished reading Street Child. We were shocked to hear that Street Child was based on a true story and was actually ended with the story of Dr Barnardo's first children's home.
Maths
In Maths this week, we have been working on reading and interpreting data. We also moved onto completing datasets based on information we had. We looked at different examples of tables including two-way tables and timetables. We needed the week by completing a statistics investigation.
Topic
We finished our 'We do like to be beside the seaside..' Topic this week ending with a wonderful Victorian Day. We started the day by experiencing what life was like in a Victorian school, choosing a Victorian name, singing the National Anthem and learning a poem by heart. Some unfortunate children even had to wear a dunce hat! After break, we took part in Drill (Victorian military style PE) before taking in part in a number of different Victorian activities such as hoop rolling, pick up sticks, card games and hopscotch. In the afternoon, we watched a Punch and Judy show and tried Victorians foods gruel, Victoria sponge and gypsy tart. We all had an amazing day and the costumes were superb!
