Weekly News! 03.04.25

We have finally reached the end of term 4. The children have earnt a well-deserved break. Whatever you have planned for the Easter holidays, we hope you have a wonderful time.
RWI
This week our children moved in to their new RWI groups. I am delighted to report that the children have settled in wonderfully, demonstrating both enthusiasm and impressive progress in their learning.
Currently, the children are engaging with and recapping Set 1 and Set 2 sounds. It's fantastic to witness their growing confidence and understanding as they connect sounds with letters. Their enthusiasm for reading is evident, and they are making remarkable strides as they transfer these skills into their writing also.
As we approach the Easter holidays, I kindly encourage you to continue reading with your child at home. Practice really is key, and your support at home can make a significant difference in reinforcing what they have learned in school. It would be wonderful if you could set aside a little time each day for shared reading; this can be both enjoyable and beneficial for your child’s development.
In your child’s reading record, you will find a target sticker that outlines what they are currently working on. This will give you a clear focus sounds to help guide your reading sessions. If you have any questions about how you can support their learning at home, please do not hesitate to reach out.
Maths
This week in maths we have recapped our learning about repeating patterns.
In our sessions, the children have been exploring how to identify the rule of a pattern – that is, the part of the pattern that repeats. They have been working hard to recognise different types of patterns, such as AB (e.g., red, blue, red, blue), ABC (e.g., red, blue, green, red, blue, green), and ABB (e.g., red, blue, blue, red, blue, blue). This foundational skill not only enhances their understanding of maths but also encourages creativity and critical thinking.
We have enjoyed plenty of hands-on activities where the children designed their own repeating patterns using various materials, such as coloured blocks, loose parts, and stickers and ball pit balls. This tactile approach has made the learning process both engaging and memorable for them.
When we return after Easter, we will be learning about sharing.
Thematic
This week children have continued their religious education, learning about the Christian celebration of Easter.
We had the pleasure of listening to a wonderful story about a boy named Luke, which helped us learn about Easter traditions and the message of Jesus rising from the dead. This pivotal moment in Christian belief conveys the importance of spreading love and kindness, a message that we aim to embody within our learning environment.
In our exploration, we discussed various Easter traditions, such as attending church services, decorating with colourful flowers, and the fun of painting Easter eggs. The children particularly enjoyed expressing their creativity as they designed their own Easter eggs. They took great care in replicating their designs onto real boiled eggs, allowing them to bring their artistic visions to life.
Furthermore, we expanded our understanding of Easter by learning about different traditions celebrated around the world. One highlight was our egg-rolling competition, inspired by the Scottish tradition. It was fantastic to see the children cheering each other on as they enjoyed this playful activity together!
As we return after the Easter break, children will begin their new topic about Growth, thank you to everyone who has sent their class teachers a baby photo of their child for this.
Home learning
Love to learn books were sent home last week. Please see details below.
Next term our topic will be ‘Growth’. For your child’s love to learn challenge, we would like you and your child to plant a seed of your choice. Please could you detail the changes that happen to the seed/plant as it grows. Also note what you need to do to the seed/plant in order to help it grow. You could do this by taking photos or asking your child to draw a picture of the seed/plant at various stages of growth. We ask that you return your child’s love to learn book by Wednesday 23rd April. We understand your seed may not be fully grown by then but hopefully the children will have seen some changes. They are welcome to bring in their plant to show if they wish.
Many Thanks
From the Foundation Stage Team
