Weekly News! 15/11/2024
We have had a fantastic week in reception! Take a look at our fabulous learning ...
RWI
We have continued our learning in groups to learn RWI. Children are recapping set 1 sounds with speedy recall and practicing our letter formation. Some children are segmenting CVC words into sounds to then write into their books. Please continue to support your child with their reading and sound recall at home.
Maths
In maths this week, we recapped our numerals 6-10 and practised representing these numbers on our fingers. We then counted different groups of objects and matched the number to the correct numeral, and then we had to write the numerals ourselves.
Next week we will be comparing amounts using the vocabulary more/ fewer and the same.
Thematic
This week the children have explored Kindness Week. We started the week by discussing what kindness means to us. We explored how it feels when someone is kind to us, and when we are kind to others. It makes us feel happy! We thought of acts of kindness and practised being kind to people around us. After that, we discussed the importance of being kind to ourselves. It is important that we use our inner voice to reflect a positive image of ourselves. We also practised techniques to get back to green using our class zen den.
We explored what it means to be a good friend, thinking of all the things we love about our friends. These included being funny, kind, helpful, a good listener and playing together. Sometimes, however, we can experience conflicts with our friends. This is normal as we all have different thoughts and feelings. What is important is how we deal with these conflicts, and sometimes we might need to compromise.
Next week, we will begin our Transport topic.
Important information
Some children will come home today with a line for our Christmas Nativity. Please help your child practice reading their lines with a big voice. Thank you.
A text was sent out this week regarding the Naughty Bus trip. This will be reception’s first school trip! We will be taking the school minibuses down to the harbour to observe the different modes of transport, including the boats. It will only be for roughly half an hour for each group, then we will head straight back to school in the minibus. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask your child’s class teacher.
