What a fantastic first week back in Year 1! Take a look at what we have been getting up to 😊
Maths
This week in maths we have been looking at identifying odd and even numbers. First, we used the Numicon tiles to look at which had a partner and which didn’t to identify odd and even numbers. We then chose a number and counted out the socks, if they made a pair that number would be even, if they didn’t it would be odd. Today, we consolidated our learning about odd and even numbers through a problem-solving lesson. We had to work systematically to find all the possible odd and even numbers up to 20 and beyond. We thought about how we could do this logically so that we did not repeat ourselves and so that we found all of the possibilities.
Next week in maths the children will be looking at ordinal numbers and sequences.
Fact of the week
Each week we will have a fact of the week. We will learn the addition fact(s) and the related subtraction fact(s). This week we are looking at doubling the number one!
1 + 1 = 2
Read, Write Inc.
This week in Read, Write Inc. We have met our new RWI teachers. We have been reviewing our sounds and working so hard phonetically reading words. In particular, we have been looking for special friends in our words, saying the sounds and reading the word. Any practise at home reading a word by finding the special friends, saying the sounds and reading the word would be greatly appreciated! We have also been working hard on our handwriting and writing sentences with capital letters and full stops.
Home Learning

Thematic
This week we began our new thematic learning Thunderbolts and lightning we started by going on a nature walk around the school to see if we could see any signs of the season we were in. Next, we looked at the four seasons and the weather we typically have across these four seasons. Today we looked at the weather in each season and how the day length varies. Then we discussed what kind of clothes we should wear in each season and dressed up our peg dolls in appropriate outfits.
Next week we will have PSHE in the afternoons and we will be focusing on healthy relationships.
