English

This week, the children have started their new book, Skellig.  They spent their guided reading lessons exploring the first two chapters and predicting what they thought would happen next.  They focused on describing a setting from the book through art and then took their time to write at length a setting description.

In our Reading for Pleasure lessons this week we explored leaflets and then decided on which leaflet was the best place to go!

Maths

This week, the children have returned to dividing and interpreting remainders as either decimals or whole number remainders.  The children finished the week answering dividing word problems and then completing an investigation using ‘friendly numbers.’

Dividing using the bus stop method.  Finding remainders and whole numbers or as a decimal.

Afternoon lessons

We have, this week, started our new thematic topic – my home, my country. They started the week completing an oracy task in small groups, answering the question: Is it ever okay to invade another country? They then learnt about the Vikings and how they came to our country. The children worked in their teams to then build their own Viking Longship (see our pictures!).

This term, Year 6 explored their painting skills in their art lessons.  This week, the children learnt about the tertiary colour wheel and how you can make primary and secondary colours from them.

This week, in computing, the children spent time looking at what a good website has included. The children, this week, in French recapped their previous vocabulary and spent time counting to 20 - here is the song we used - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UsEz58BblMY

 Home Learning

For home learning this week, we would like the children to make their own clock as we will be learning about time next week in maths.  They can present their clock any way they wish – these will also be displayed in class. Next week, the children will return to spelling their Red Words in their spelling lessons.
