Weekly News! 11/10/24
We have had a great week in reception. We hope you have a restful weekend.
RWI
We have continued to learn our set 1 sounds this week. Children are becoming so confident and speedy at recalling sounds. This speedy recall really helps the children when decoding words as they can hear the words clearly. Thank you for your continued support of practising these sounds at home in your pink sound books. It really is making a difference.
Maths
In maths this week, we have been learning about numerals 6-10. We use the numberblocks to help familiarise children with the numerals and support their understanding of quantity. To help us remember the formation of the numbers, we learnt a patter for each and spent time practising writing them.
Below are the formation rhymes we use if you want to practise this at home.
Next week we are exploring special awareness through the use of positional and directional language.
Thematic
This week we focussed on the painting ‘Wheatfield with Crows’ by Van Gogh. We started by discussing the painting and what we noticed. We expressed what we liked and disliked about the painting, being mindful of 3 things:
-
Be kind
-
Be helpful
-
Be respectful
We then had a go at recreating the painting. We had 3 things to remember to include. Van Gogh uses small brushstrokes to create texture and movement to his painting. He also uses tints (adding white to a colour) and shades (adding black to a colour) to create depth in his paintings. We had a go at implementing all three skills in our artwork. Check out the results!
We then held an art gallery showcasing our work. We discussed the three things Van Gogh used in his painting and whether we had managed to recreate them, and remembered to be kind, helpful and respectful.
Next week we will be exploring more about on the farm including farm foods, jobs, animals and their babies.
