Well done to Year 5 for another amazing week. Here's what we've been up to:
English
This week, we continued reading Michelle Paver's 'Wolf Brother' with Torak, Renn and Wolf having found two of the parts of Nanuaks. In our English lessons, we have started to write an alternate ending to the story focusing on Torak, Renn and Wolf finding the Nanuaks after describing them and the setting. We used vocabulary to set the mood, vocabulary to hook our reader, speech and verbs and adverbs to describe the action. Next week, we will be continuing with our narratives and publishing.
Maths
In Maths this week, we have been working on converting between fractions, decimals and percentages. We looked at how to convert between each of the three and solved various problems relating to converting. Next week, we will be looking at statistics.
Thematic
This week, we have continued our Term 5 topic 'Tides of Change' and continued working on our Science investigations. We designed different shapes hulls for boats and tested the effect the shape of the hull had on water resistance. We also continued our Be Here, Be You, Belong PSHE learning by creating artwork of us as Gladiators using photos of our face. Next week, we will be studying RE and Be Here, Be You, Belong with our parade.
Home Learning
For home learning this week, please could children design (and create) a boat that would have the least amount of water resistance acting upon it. Think about the shape using what you have learned in Science this week.
Dates to Remember:
20th May - Year 5 and 6 Viking Games at Upton Junior School. Please could children get to school at 8:30am. We will be leaving to catch the train at 8:35am.
